CAPA Spring Report 2015

1- ANALYTIC TRAINING: Two APsaA institutes have agreed to accept applications from graduates of CAPA’s Advanced Training Program for full, on-line psychoanalytic training beginning September 2015 (classes, supervision and psychoanalysis): the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis and the William Alanson White Institute*. Two other APsaA institutes are also considering this to begin either in 2015 or 2016.

What this means: there will be a cadre of fully trained analysts in China who will take over the training and teaching of analysts and psychotherapists. CAPA will have achieved its goal. We will go home leaving China in good hands. DON'T PACK YOUR BAGS YET—this is 10-15 years off.

2- FUNDRAISING: Many applicants for analytic training can pay tuition and supervisory fees themselves. 36 graduates are eligible to apply now. Another 20 will be eligible each year hereafter. Not all will apply. If it is necessary to switch analysts (because of APsaA and local rules), some may need help paying the (reduced) fees of their new analysts. A major fund-raising project is underway for a rotating loan fund. The first event is raffling 9 days at Danille Drake’s house in Italy. Click here to buy a raffle ticket (If you have a vacation house where you can raffle a week—please contact me). We need more than $1,000,000. I am in contact with an American foundation, and with someone in China who has colleagues in the Chinese financial community. ANY HELP OR ADVICE (OR MONEY) YOU CAN GIVE IS VERY WELCOME. CAPA is a 501c3 organization, so donations are tax deductible.

3- THE FUTURE IS NOW!

CAPA Advanced Training Graduates who have taken the “How to Supervise” course are now acting as ‘second supervisors’ for second year students. These supervisors will attend an ongoing seminar on supervision.

CAPA Advanced Training Graduates will be invited to act as junior teachers with some of our first and second year teachers.

CAPA students and graduates in five cities (Beijing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Wuhan, and Shanghai) have lecture series, teach Beginners' classes, have public conferences, consult to primary, middle and secondary schools, supervise at university mental health services, consult at EAPs, and organize peer supervision groups etc., etc.

A large percentage of CAPA graduates are now in private practice.
